Besides some general remarks on the 2019 Bruges exhibition of Spanish baroque art (Sint-Janshospitaal/ Memling Museum), Ruud Priem will discuss the ways in which Spanish baroque art was influenced by artists and art collectors from the Low Countries. Hitherto understudied personal contacts between leading Spanish artists and their seventeenth century Northern European contemporaries appear to have had a surprisingly large impact on the development of Spanish baroque art.
