Koekkoek - a «success story»

The participatory patronage campaign "Become a patron of a Koekkoek" launched by the Musée national d'histoire et d'art, MNHA on May 3, 2016, to support the purchase of a work whose investment far exceeds the museum's acquisition budget was a resounding success. The MNHA achieved or even exceeded its objective.

This subscription action aimed at bringing into the public collections a painting by Barend Cornelis Koekkoek entitled "View of the castle of Larochette" (1848) painted for the King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg, William II (1840-1849 ). It ended with a very positive outcome.

In fact, according to figures communicated by the National Cultural Fund (FOCUNA), the platform responsible for recording pledges, 282 patrons have been identified for a total contribution of 102,928.47 euros (date: November 9, 2016).

Summary in detail:

The vast majority of donations come from individuals (250 donations), who are sensitive to the issue of heritage preservation and the national challenge of this acquisition effort.

18 donors have requested anonymity.

271 donors will have benefited from a tax abatement certificate, of which 125 will be given in the coming days a pass valid for two people for two years guaranteeing free access to our two museums (MNHA and M3E).

2 institutional donors have come forward to benefit from the advantages linked to corporate sponsorship (> 10,000 euros).

To thank the donors, the MNHA invited to a big “Night of patrons" on Thursday December 8, 2016 during which they could admire the painting in a festive setting.
