All our activities at a glance

The MNHA offers guided tours and workshops for schools of all education levels. These visits are not limited to a tour through the exhibition rooms, but privilege dialogue over ex-cathedra teaching and are always accompanied by one or more practical activities. These show young people that often artworks are more easily accessible to them with the help of small games, enigmas, puzzles ...

Njörd is a very qualitative fast food concept, inspired by Scandinavian values and way of life. Njörd MNHA offers simple and healthy recipes, to be tasted in a comfortable and soothing atmosphere.

This tour is dedicated to the exciting finds that have been uncovered in Luxembourg since the 17th century. The exhibition of this unique archaeological heritage is grouped both chronologically and thematically, leading the visitor over its five floors from prehistoric times, over the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as the Gallo-Roman period, until the Middle Ages.

The visitor can discover the permanent collections of the museum through four thematic tours (A, B, C, D). The museum offers an additional discovery tour leading across twelve stations throughout the collections - "Luxembourg for kids" - for children of 6 years and up who want to visit and explore the museum together with their family and to get an insight into the history of Luxembourg in a playful manner.

Each year, the MNHA prepares an activity report for the previous year.

En 1979, le nouveau gouvernement luxembourgeois issu des élections du 10 juin 1979, et sous l'impulsion de Pierre Werner (Ministre d'État, Ministre des Affaires Culturelles) et de Jacques Santer (Ministre des Finances), avait proposé dans sa déclaration gouvernementale du 24 juillet 1979 « la création d'un Fonds culturel alimenté par des recettes extra budgétaires et destiné à renforcer l'infrastructure culturelle ».

The Fondation de Luxembourg was created in December 2008 by the Luxembourg State and the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte. Its mission is to promote private philanthropic commitment.

The Foundation has three main objectives: preservation of heritage and enrichment of public collections, support to organisations caring for youth or elderly people, and research on the Grand-Duchy's history.

The participatory patronage campaign "Become a patron of a Koekkoek" launched by the Musée national d'histoire et d'art, MNHA on May 3, 2016, to support the purchase of a work whose investment far exceeds the museum's acquisition budget was a resounding success. The MNHA achieved or even exceeded its objective.

This tour presents the masterworks of the national collections on the 3rd and the 4th floor of the main building, taking visitors on a time travel from the 13th to the 21st century. The visit is completed with a room dedicated to Edward Steichen’s photographs and a panorama of Luxembourg’s art, both on the 3rd floor of the Wiltheim Wing.

This tour leads through magnificent old houses, inviting an original gaze at Luxembourg’s styles of living and its decorative arts, from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Questions regarding originality, as well as the complex relationship between Luxembourgian production and various foreign influences make for the central thread of this exhibition.

The most secret collections of the MNHA turn into the light thanks to a new refurbishment. Gold coins, prestigious decorations, extremely rare and first banknotes of Luxembourg and old gems are to be discovered in this heritage treasure hunt!
