Medieval urban history

Lycées

The tour begins with a general introduction to medieval history and focuses on daily life in this period. The young visitors go through the medieval archaeological collection and discover the finds of this period. The three noble and middle-class houses belonging to the MNHA have a long history as residential buildings and bear witness to the development of urban living from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. After their conversion, the cellars of these three houses of the "Wiltheim Wing" house a collection of medieval urban archaeology focused on the history of the city of Luxembourg.

The tour takes up the main themes dealt with in history courses such as feudalism, the medieval society of the three states (oratores, bellatores laboratores), popular beliefs or ancient trades and illustrates daily life with the help of the various objects on display.
