Auguste Trémont's numismatic work is limited, but it is of high quality. Although this Luxembourg artist (1892-1980) is mainly known for his animal sculptures, several of his works can also be found in our coins and medals collection.

In 1924, Trémont produced the initial sketches for a certificate of deposit featuring a portrait of Grand Duchess Charlotte on one side and, on the other, an allegory of agriculture and a metallurgist. It is interesting to note the differences between the artist's sketches and the printed banknote. The back of the pastel on cardboard depicting the peasant woman and the worker shows the cut-off drawing of a panther, an animal that was typical for Trémont's artistic production.
